This figure shows how an SS7 system can use an analog signaling links to transfer SS7 data messages. To transfer data messages on an analog line, modems are attached at the end of each digital switch to convert the messages from digital form to analog form. This permits the transfer of digital information on the analog communication line. Analog signaling links are often used on older switching systems and they usually have signaling transmission rates that are lower than digital signaling links.
